Welcome to Asha Kirana, a new source of hope and light emerging through the dark and depressing clouds of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Asha Kirana is a voluntary, not-for-profit charitable trust, with a mission to respond to the global challenge of HIV/AIDS from multiple fronts.

 

Out of 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS world over, 2 million are children under 15 years. India has an estimated 2.5 million (0.36% prevalence) people, of these 100,000 (4%) are children under 15 years.

India is now heading towards the world's largest HIV/AIDS population. The crisis is worsening due to apathy, ignorance, secrecy, stigma and discrimination, as well as lack of willingness and concern among the healthcare providers.

 

Asha Kirana is born to bring a new ray of hope in this.The hospital stands as a testimony of collective commitment and response from the citizenry of Mysore.

 

Originating as a counselling cum care clinic for People Living With AIDS (PLHIV) in 1997, Asha Kirana evolved into a full fledged hospital in 2004, with facilities for general healthcare as well as speciality care for PLHIV. Spread over an acre of land in the peaceful environs of Mysore, the hospital is today a major reference point of the healthscape of Karnataka, receiving a number of HIV/AIDS referrals from far and wide.
